News: Self-Regulation for Nonprofits
Recently, the Committee on Self-Regulation, as convened by Independent Sector, came out with its 29 recommendations.
These are seen as “best business practices” and are recommendations in lieu of legislation. These 29 recommendations provide "responsibilities and practices, such as implementing conflict of interest and whistleblower policies, that will assist charitable organizations in complying with their legal obligations." The use of outside, third-parties vendors is highly encouraged.
Panel on the Nonprofit Sector Self-Regulation for Nonprofits Section 1 of 4 - Facilitating Legal Compliance
"A charitable organization must establish and implement policies and procedures that enable individuals to come forward with credible information on illegal practices or violations of organizational policies. This 'whistleblower' policy must specify that the organization will not retaliate against individuals who make such reports."
The Solution: EthicsPoint Reporting System
The EthicsPoint Reporting System is exactly what your nonprofit needs to follow best practices. This whistleblower system is the foundation for developing and maintaining an effective ethics and compliance program as it helps organizations proactively identify and resolve sensitive issues, encourage compliance across multiple disciplines, and minimize financial, legal, and reputational risk.
